Speech-Language Pathology (M.A.)
The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Speech-Language Pathology prepares students for clinical practice and eligibility for professional certification.
Standard Program: 5 semesters for students with CSD Background and 7 semesters for students with other backgrounds (including summers)
Extended Program: 10 semesters (including summers)
Credit Requirement: Minimum of 60 semester credit hours for students with a background in CSD. Minimum of 70 semester credit hours for students with other backgrounds 鈥 these include the 60 credits required for all students, as well as:
- Language Development (3 credits)
- Intro to Transcription (1 credit)
- Audiology content (2 credits)
- Clinic (3 additional credits beyond the 14 required of all students for with other backgrounds)
The extended track and traditional program models meet the academic and clinical requirements
set by the for the
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC鈥慡LP).
All applicants must submit their application through the
Communication Sciences and Disorders Centralized Application Service (CSDCAS).
- Admission occurs once per year.
- The program begins in the Summer or Fall semester depending on if you are with other background or with background.
- For the 2027 entering class, all application materials must be:
- Submitted and verified by CSDCAS by February 1, 2027

We strongly encourage applications from students whose undergraduate degree is in a field other than Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD).
Certain undergraduate foundational courses are required for completion of the M.A. degree. These courses appear as 鈥減rerequisites鈥 in the CSDCAS system.
If not completed during your undergraduate program:
- They must be completed prior to beginning graduate coursework
- Some required Communication Disorders coursework can be completed as electives during the program
Students without a CSD background begin the program in the Summer term
Students with a CSD background begin in the Fall term

- AUSP 7502 鈥 Introduction to Phonetic Transcription

GRE scores are not required.
There is no minimum GPA requirement.
The average cumulative undergraduate GPA of recently admitted students was 3.7 (4.0 scale)
