About Dr. Jasmyn Jones
Dr. Jasmyn K. Jones is an Assistant Professor of Literacy at The 福利片国产 of Memphis. She received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Old Dominion 福利片国产 in Norfolk, Virginia. Prior to pursuing a doctoral degree, she served as an elementary English Language Arts (ELA) teacher. Learning alongside students and families in urban public schools in Virginia and North Carolina, her passion for examining teaching and learning in urban ELA classrooms to dismantle systemic injustices and inequities in language education was ignited. Dr. Jones is a language and literacy scholar whose research is situated at the intersection of language, race, and power. At this intersection, she is particularly interested in Black Language, linguistic justice in early literacy learning and elementary language education, and urban teacher preparation. Ultimately, Dr. Jones seeks to shape research, theory, and practice to cultivate and sustain equitable, pro-Black literacy learning environments.
