Department of Architecture

Trey Kirk

Trey Kirk, AIA

Trey Kirk is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Architecture.  He is also a licensed architect and Design Director at Meticulous Design + Architecture where he acts as liaison to Global Design Firms working in the Memphis area.  He teaches undergraduate design studios and graduate-level seminars in Architectural Theory, Urban Speculation, and Building Typology.

Trey's primary research focus is on the genealogy of building-types: how the formal expression and functional organization of common types must adapt or evolve when confronted with unique site parameters, climatic conditions, building systems, or technological considerations.  This is a generative process through which new and subvariant types are developed.

Trey has worked in the offices of Farshid Moussavi Architecture (London, UK), Preston Scott Cohen (Cambridge, MA), and HBG Design (Memphis, TN), and has contributed to a variety of large-scale cultural projects from Venice to Nanjing to the Mississippi Delta, as well as several private residences.  He is the former Director of Design for Hotel Carbon HQ, an athlete-focused hospitality brand specializing in immersive media environments and biometric integration.  He is also a past Director of the AIA Memphis Board and brings the perspective of a native Memphian with international design experience.

He holds a Master of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
